I think if we took a poll, you'd find that EVERYbody on this forum is very skeptical as to its authenticity, but only a couple are certain that it's fake. I also think that if we took a poll you would find that the great majority of people think if it is real it COULD be worth a lot of money, but only a couple are certain that it will be 80% of the going price for the exact same coin w/o the error. This is the crux of the discussion. If you look back nobody said that its definitely real and nobody said that it's definitely worth millions. If you make absolute statements like that, you end up having to eat crow with a side of your own shoe. It seems to me that a hobby can only be fun if you can expect the unexpected every now and then. This forum was just the first step before taking it to an expert. Will advise
6 weeks? no,no not with pcgs we all know theres expedieted service. I want that body bagged morgan in my hand ASAP Its such a screaming fake that Ill put my slabbed 93S against your 5. And since yall dont seem to know anything about this coin, chances are one of them is a fake slab also. If you paid more than melt for this coin you got SCAMMED but send it to pcgs theyll confirm that. I could use 5 more 93S. buy the wifey a new car with that. Also you mgith want to send the 94 UNC and the 95 P business strike and any other coins in this collection as well. the end result will be a humbling lesson for you. PS the partial collar is indicative of how its fake. Good luck though Ill be expecting those 5 93S in my mailbox by january.
Let me start by saying you aint getting (i'll do the editing now) from me! First off we all said it's probably fake, but we hope it's not for his sake, and quite frankly it would be awesome to see you proven wrong!! Just because edited!! So before you go running your mouth about not only one persons collection but now everyones collection who you have no idea what it contains you might wanna check yourself! There's no need to attack people for being optomistic! I know your the the 93-S morgan dollar god all the sudden, but seriously dude no need for the negativity! All the signs are there for it to be real, the only visable sign that i can see that makes it questionable is the rim issue. The only way to find out is send it in, and let the TRUE EXPERTS make the call!
Funny, anybody can see from the pics that this thing COULD very well be real but remain skeptical. Like GD said skepticism is a good thing. But flat out denial. C'mon Here is Cerdis argument. "That coin thar is too rare to be real" Implying that there is no such thing as rare coins. He cant believe that hes lived almost his whole life and doesn't know everything there is to know about coins. This guy needs a new hobby. If your lady needs a new car Ill just give her one of mine. I feel really bad that you got her walking to the grocery store for beans.
Rule number 1 people ... Attack the coin, not the person. Has this coin been sent in yet? Can someone put together a composite with real railroad rims on morgans and then the effect you see on the rims due to casting? There are some real differences.
The term railroad rim is not new, it's been around for decades. But it is a slang term. The proper term is partial collar.
I will echo others with my experiences. I have to agree that if genuine this coin will bring less then a no problem example aside from the very few collectors who may be doing some sort of super niche set of errors. I have handled lots of errors on key and semi key coins over the years and the general consensus by the mainstream collecting community is "I'd rather have a no problem example." This is going to be the biggest market simply because this encompasses the most collectors with the means to buy such a coin. Almost every non error collector will consider this a problem coin simply because they do not collect errors. As mentioned earlier error collectors will not want this piece because the price tag is prohibitive compared to comparable errors. To be honest as far as partial collar Morgans go this coin is average in the WOW factor for partial collar Morgans. No significant spreading of the planchet. That leaves you with the specialist. The collector who is collecting this special set of error Morgan dollars and needs the key date of the series with an error on it. There are small handful of collectors that would attempt such a set and even less who will complete it. This means your market for selling this coin at ANY premium lies in a small handful of collectors... who may or may not be of the means to buy this coin. It's the catch 22 of errors on key date coins. I have seen it dozens of times.
Coin has been submitted to a TPG. It is a moot point to say that it is most likely fake. I think that is stating the obvious. And as far as what it is worth, the majority of the folks on this thread are in consensus that this will be a "gold mine" if it is real, and only a few believe it is worth less than a regular coin. I think the latter is the safest bet. I have always been a gambler, more fun than taking the path of least resistance (aka. the easy way out). But to each there own. Will advise in a few weeks.
I just read back through the entire thread and I haven't seen anyone whom believed it would be worth more than a regular coin, you have it quite the opposite where the consensus was mostly that it would sell below the regular graded counter part.
Were I loaded with disposable income, I would pay a premium for it. Especially if it were the only one known of. I'd run a PR campaign that would make P.T. Barnum blush, maybe take it on tour, then sit back and let people crawl over one another to make offers. This is, of course, providing it were authentic.
This is exactly my point! You were the only person to even hint that it is worth a premium, and you are only giving a supposition! "If I had the disposable income", and than you go on to explain how much effort you would put in to making it seem the coin is worth more than it is to get a large sum at the end. So Neither of what you said makes this coin worth any premium in the real world where the other people that have given their first hand experiences of selling key date coins w/ errors and their actual results from it!
Wow. People on this forum admitting that they would gladly pay a premium for this coin. But you know better than them. Old dogs really cant learn new tricks. I think maybe ill just pm a few select people with the results. The rest can read about it in a numimag somewhere. Keep ur blinders on though. THey seemed to gotten you this far with out Natural Selection taking you out of the game so I guess its working for you. Notice the change in sentiment from the start of this forum. From: "That thang aint real, no way no how" to "ok ok maybe it is real but it aint wort nuttin" I can already see the next evolution: "well it only sold for that much cuz it took the coin world by storm and was on the cover of every coin mag in the world. and its only cuz bill gates and warren buffet went head to head at the auction. Der" Besides who compares pennies with Dollars. Pennies have no sex appeal whatsoever even 1877 injuns. far fewer people care about pennies. There is plenty of REAL MONEY players out there who will pay the money but far more people who cant swing it. so what. I am over this forum. too many knowitalls.
Enough already ! Either report back or don't, I really don't care at this point. But any more of this senseless squabbling like 6 year olds and this thread is closed for good ! And that goes for all of you !
You are right GD. I choose don't. I am on many forums but none like this. CLosing my account today. Thanks,Buh Bye
:too-funny: Can't have it his way so he's gonna take his ball and go home. Reminds me of myself when I was 8 years old. Sorry we're skeptical of an error on one of the rarest and most desirable coins ever.
I never implied that the market would currently dictate it demand a premium. I only said that I think it would be worth a premium. The market has to know that a coin exists for it there to actually be a "market". I also implied that markets can be manipulated, by using hype, like all coin-mags do. I also never said I'd sell the coin, if I owned it. MMMMMMWwwwwwwwuuuuuhahahahahaha !! Now, don't get the idea that I'm arguing with you. We just have different opinions. :u*meY: *Edit* BTW.... I do respect all the opinions in this thread. I'm just a crazy hack.
