Could I have some help with this cut half I found yesterday. I have worked it out to be a henry iii cut half 7a elis on Lvnde please correct me if I'm wrong with id . My other question is if this was a full 7a penny would weigh 1.46 grams so half would be 0.73 not that you need me to work maths out . So my cut half don't have to much ware to make difference in the weight . So mine weighs 0.48 grams what is really light. So if this coin was full that means the other half of this coin would weigh a gram what wouldn't be right, but if it was 0.48 it would still be 0.5 gram lighter. But in the henry iii class 7 there was half penny issue same as 7 penny but identified by upside down crescent moon. So could my coin be a half penny as its lighter than a penny . Any thoughts or opinions are welcome .
    Regards
    Pete

The only thing I can do is post another Henry III penny that has been cut in half.

The cross on the reverse of the coin was used as the marker for cutting these coins in half pennies and farthings (one-fourth of a penny). It appears to me that your coin got the short end of the cross cut and that there is another piece of missing metal on left side of the reverse. The piece also has a fair amount of wear. That still doesn't explain why the piece is as light as it is.

One word of caution for those who might like to buy one of these pieces. They are worth a lot less than "full pennies" that are still whole. I bought this one for $20 from a specialist dealer. A complete Henry III sells for $100 or more.

FWIW, Mass 1952, which is a die match for your coin weighs 1.34g. Unfortunately, his collection only had 4 coins of Elis in class VIIa3. However, taking the 208 class VII coins in the collection as a whole, excluding the clearly or possibly clipped examples, the weight range was 1.17 - 1.55g. Given yours has die match with an unambiguous penny, slightly porous surfaces and the weight is not that far below the lower limit, plus we don't know what the other half looked like, I'm confident that it's not a halfpenny. Though the first point would be sufficient to answer the question.
