Hi - I am trying to put together a collection of Nickels. I would love to have the 1944 Henning counterfeit to go in the collection. Does anyone on the board have one they are willing to part with or know where one can be purchased?
Sorry about that. I looked for a "buy/sell" board but did not see it. Now I know why. LOL. What is the required number of posts to open that board? Thank you.
are they considered illegal to own? Also are there other dates of henning nickels (obviously would be harder to tell apart than the 1944)
Yes, there were '39, '46, 47, and '53? here is a good read. He bought his planchets for the '44 at 3 1/2 cents, but I guess a 100,000 batch @ 5 cents made it for him, although his sentence of 3 years and $5,000 fine certainly ate that up. Here is a good reference. http://www.coinbooks.org/esylum_v07n13a09.html Jim
I believe I read on another thread that this nickel was counterfeited prior to the law being enacted that prevented you from owning counterfeit money. That could be totally wrong though. I do not know for sure.
You can legally posses a limited amount of counterfeit US money for reference purposes, as long as you do not attempt to deceive with the use of said bogus money.
i also see that i have a nickle with a "S" on the top back, i know geniune nickels have "P", which is why i know my Hennings are fake, but what does the "S" mean? its from 43
