I recently made a post about getting my name out there by making up some cheap-o business cards and helping people in my area identify, grade, and give a rough estimate of value for their collections. After mixed replies, I am happy to say that it has gone well so far. I have looked at two rather large collections and a few small ones. The two larger collections had some nice surprises. Each having an 1868 Shield Nickel in EF/low AU grade. Yes, it is a self-serving endeavor because I am gaining lots of experience by seeing many of the same coins in different grades to help me hone that skill. I met some criticism that I may be out to screw people. This is certainly not the case. The few things I did buy from them were just what I needed for my collection and I paid them top dollar and then some. I am not going to turn around and sell these for a profit. I do leave them with as much information as I can to further research their collections on their own (books, CoinTalk, clubs, etc...) I want to get people excited about the hobby. Any questions, comments or suggestions? Please feel free to leave them, but be nice. I am doing this with the best intentions.
Sounds like fun. I have 2 or 3 people with small accumulations of old coins that I was going to do that for. They never seem to get around to digging the coins out of wherever they have them stashed though.
