hey im new to the forum, but i am eager on knowing what this coin is worth (i doubt harldy anything). i have no pictures but i will describe it as good as possible on one side, there is written "LIBERTE - EGALITE - FRATERNITE" with "2 FRANCS -1939-" written under it. the coin is sort of goldy/brassy colour. on the otherside, there is a picture of a guys head with a reed around it. it also, written on his face side, "REPVBLIQVE" and on the opposite side "FRANCAISE" also small writing saying "MORLON" (beats me if this is with all of them) thanks alot. pictures! cant read the writing so i added it in
Howdy Jezzza - Welcome to the Forum !! To determine the value of a coin we need to see its condition. If you can, try posting pics, without the added legends ( good job of that by the way ), and see if you can get the pics to be clear, not fuzzy.
i cant i can tel lyou that its not shiny, no dents/cracks/ and very minor scratches. seems to be in perfect condition except for the buffing matter. what shouldi look for in value of a coin? i know around an AUSSIE dollar there are little ridges. (whats it called? i feel stupid lol) any idea of a general value? does the value go by the age? condition? ... how is it assessed?
Well it's a 1939 French 2 franc. The value is determined by the condition of the coin, how much wear it has if any, the date and the mint mark. That's why I asked for better pics. I don't have my books with me right now to look it up, but based on general knowledge of the coins of the period at best I would expect the coin to be worth a few dollars.
I dunno, GD! The vending machine at my place of work gives me a pretty accurate value of all the modern dates I carry in my pocket!
KM # 886; 25,403,000 minted Value anywhere between $ 0.20 and $5 (condition FINE/UNCIRCULATED) depending on condition of your coin
