Replacement notes are notes that replace notes that have been mutilated or printed ni error during the printing process. They have different serial numbers and/or series to distinguish them from the regular run of notes. They do this so the first user of the fresh pack of notes will understand why there is a break in the sequence of numbers in the pack. In the United States, replacement notes have a star as the suffix of the serial numbers. Replacements usually carry a premium because they usually have small print runs.
