I have someone trying to sale me 4 coins graded at MS66 by GSA for 1500 dollars. they are 1923-s Peace dollar and 2 59 franklin halfs and a 65 franklin half. they are all d mints except for the peace, and are all graded MS66. is this worth the purchase?
If it was worth 30K, do you think he would be selling it for $1500? That grading company is useless as the grades are over inflated.
They are trying to sell you a 1965-D Franklin Half Dollar? Be very careful about that one because no Franklin Half Dollars were struck after 1963 and no coins dated 1965 have a mintmark. (All this info is in your Red Book by the way.)
Have you seen the coins? Do they look MS66? Remember, buy the coin not the slab, if its marked a 66 but its really not, you will not get 66 money for it.
Aly, This is a scam! If there is no such a grading service called GSA, it's one of the third-world bottom feeders. Chris
GSA is NOT a grading company anyone recognizes, and as such their grades are meaningless. Not to be rude, but PLEASE learn about coins, how to grade, and what grading services are even worthy of considering before you throw your money away. Way too many inexperienced collectors get scammed every day. Before you spend a penny on coins, you should know: 1. PCGS prices are only for PCGS graded coins, and still very high retail prices 2. Even slabbed coins are faked, you MUST know coins before you buy them 3. Learn to grade a 66 versus a 65 versus an AU versus a cleaned or damaged coin yourself If you don't know those things, you are a sucker that will get preyed on by the vultures circling this hobby looking for the idiots. Chris
that is why the question was posted. I couldnt find anything about them as a grading company online and thought it was very strange. I wanted to verify my concerns though people who know about coins and grading.
are these the coins you are considering buying? http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/clt/3126292416.html
I messaged the person in question and referred them to a local dealer who is fair and knowledgeable. I told them they should take the ad down and contact the dealer for authentication and help selling them to be fair to him.
From the ad: "I have a few coins I am willing to sell." I'd be willing to sell $80 worth of coins for $1500 too! Although I'd probably have trouble looking myself in mirror for a long time afterwards. Assuming they are authentic, I would be willing to offer melt value for them, which would be $51.17. Maybe a buck or two more for each since Peace dollars and Franklin halves in circulated condition are worth more than straight up junk silver. So $59.17 tops. Think I should send him an offer?
