I just found out that SGS was grading there coins too high and people were getting ripped off. I had two coin graded recently by them. And was so excited when I got the coins back because the 1991 D Penny has sold at Stacks and Bowers for $ 5,000. I finally thought that I would be able to make enough money to go see my mother whom I have not seen in three years. She is going blind and needs a kidney transplant. I have attached photos. Could some please tell me if the coin you see would rate a MS69 rating. It would make me sick if I had sold the coin and it was not what I said. I know I sould send it to PCGS, but they are expensive. So if one of you could tell me what I am looking at I would be grateful.007.jpg
MS67 or 68 would be a fair grade for it. It CAN be a 69, but I doubt it. *I'm only grading if the obverse is the same quality as the reverse. I'll need pictures of the reverse to grade it more accurately
I'm surprised they didn't give it a 70, as they do most coins regardless of condition. Here's a 91-D SGS graded MS70 on eBay right now with a BIN of $21 (which is probably about $17 too much). Sorry about your Mom and your Lincoln cent. http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNCIRCULATED-1991-D-LINCOLN-MEMORIAL-CENT-MS-/220127779370?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3340a35a2a
Myself personally, don't see that coin getting anything higher than a 65, and that's really pushing it and considering I'm not seeing the reverse, and not justified IMHO to submit it to the other two, more reputable, TPGs. FYI, SGS overgrades everything, and every modern, i.e., coins struck within the past 20 years, is an automatic 70 on the label, and 69 is really more like a 64 or less realistically.
