Here's two more items that are beyond me. I have a sneaking suspicion that the person who owns these (and the first one I asked about) is going to be very pleased with responses. I hesitate to call these two currency. They appear to be issued by the Chamber of Commerce. -- One is from Quimper and Brest -- The other from Nice. I don't know if they were treated as currency. The images are large mostly because their age and condition. View attachment 1631219 View attachment 1631219
Interesting local banknotes for sure. #1: 1 Franc - Chambre de Commerce de Nice et des Alpes-Maritimes (06) - Commune of Nice #2: 50 Centimes - Chambres de Commerce de Quimper et de Brest (29) - Communes of Quimper and Brest Fairly scarce according to Numista.
-Good "detective work" @mikebell @kanga you do realize that you can insert your image on Numista & it will instantly identify the note? Check how to do this on CCF here (use the camera icon) & uploading the image. As a "local banknote" an AU example of the 1 Franc is listed for $17.50USD (according to the eBay links on Numista). Very interesting find!
They are emergency money, allowing local chambers of commerce to print money when coinage was being hoarded during the war. Unfortunately in that condition, not worth much, sorry.
