For all the ancient experts out there ... Info, please! I bought these two copper coins (one is Roman obviously) and the other is probably Greek. I'd like to know who is the emperor on the roman coin and the date origin/date of the other one I paid $20 for both (Not a bad deal I hope) Many thanks, Monetarium
Looks similar to this one on wildwinds http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/gallienus/RIC_0179K.jpg RIC179k Gallienus AE Antoninianus. AD 267-268. GALLIENVS AVG, radiate head right / DIANAE CONS AVG, antelope walking left, XII in ex. Cohen 160. I cant make out what the lettering is under the antelope. That will determine the mint. If different then the RIC and Cohen #s will be different too. Richard
Gallienus AE antoninianus Rome, 253-268 AD GALLIENVS AVG radiate bust r. DIANAE CONS AVG stag walking l. X in exergue Ric Va Rome 179
I can't tell precisely what the second one is, beyond that the obverse is a bust of Tyche. Perhaps its similar to this one from my collection. Aradus, Phoenicia AE 14 Aradus, c. 300-200 BC bust of Tyche r. prow l. with Phoenician inscription below BMC 97
I'd never imagined that that was a bust! I thought it was maybe a bee or another kind of insect What a big crown!
