I purchased this coin on ebay a year or so ago.It was listed as John (Juan) I silver coranado.I made an assumption that this was John I of Castile 1379-1390 but in reality I'm not sure if I'm correct.
I know there are a lot of experts on coins of this period so I'd like to find out if I have it right and if it is actually a coronado..and what the heck IS a coronado. It's the size of a US dime.
I'd also like to decipher the inscription.I think I can see CASTE..Castille??

I'm not quite sure which one it is - but I don't think it's Juan I. And you have your pics upside down I do believe.

You can check the coins of this period by king - Click Here

Thanks Doug, there are several coins on the site that look similar but I haven't found an exact match yet.It very well might be a coronado as some of them have a castle like the one on my coin..

That was my problem too. That's about the best site I know of for medieval Spanish coinage, and if the coin can't be found there it may well require a specialty book.
