I purchased a set of 6 Somali guitar coins from 2004. After carefully measuring the largest coin, I determined that a 47 mm AirTite capsule would accomodate them. See picture. The problem is that the foam insert in the capsule is a too large in diameter so the coin moves around. The insert is also too thin so the coin easily slips underneath it when it is being handled. I'm afraid it will get scratched. Any suggestions about alternate ways to store these coins?
Dreamer94,you do realise that anything that is denominated in Dollars & has the name of 'Republic of Somalia' on it is actually a fantasy? The same thing applies to the motorbike-shaped ones. They are not real coins. Aidan.
I have four from the 2006 Fun show (there were door prizes) they're in NGC holders with a special label. Are they worth anything?
No, I didn't know they weren't legal tender, but I don't really care. I think they're cool. I got sets for each of my kids, also. I might buy the motorcycle coins also.
That's probably the test approach. Any thoughts about materials you need to avoid that will be in contact with coins?
They are very cool looking coins!! Ask for an inert foam that way you know it won't react with the coins.
