Help with matte proof Wheats

Hi ya all ... can someone help me with any info or direction to go on matte proof wheats ??
I have MAYBE a couple - not sure but I have one coin in particular I need help with . I Am posting a couple pics to see if this coin is a matte proof finish . Please help and advise on what to look for . Be cool to have one or two in my coin book . I can get better pics during daylight . My house is kinda dark and lighting isn’t great . .

From these images, I don't feel it's a matte proof.

 

1917 is the year .. I can post another pic . I haven’t found a lot on matte but looking now thank you for the site... . I just wondered insight from the best group around . truly enjoy all the posts and info ... great stuff

 

Are you sure they made Matte Proof Lincoln cents in 1917? The last Proof I found in the Red Book was 1916.

Matte proofs were only made in 1909 through 1916. You need to look at a ton of pictures of matte proofs and even then you need to probably purchase Kevin Flynn's book on matte proof Lincolns and read it. Matte proofs are special and you are highly unlikely to find any sitting in a roll or bag of Lincolns.

 

I saw a lady had found this and she had on eBay ..stating they did ??? I didn’t think they made one either but ... that’s why I turned to u all .. and I must get a RED BOOK ..

 

I totally agree .. it just looked so different next to my other coins . Thank you . I will get that book as well as a RED BOOK .

 

These are mine. Notice the strike above all else. Matte proof Lincolns were struck in the Medals Room in the Philadelphia mint. The Medals press operated slower to deliver fully struck coins. There are several characteristics that you can train your eye to spot, but it takes a lot of time and practice.

In my opinion the 1917 is not an actual matte proof. There are quite a few very nice and well struck Lincolns out there that can be confused as matte proofs. Personally i think the "lone" 1917 is just a well struck business strike with a lot of hype.
