Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has a link handy for referencing JD varieties, particularly on proof V nickels. It's not a fool-proof way of figuring out for certain if this 1883 (with "cents") coin is a proof or not, but if I can pin one specific variety down from the list, that would certainly save me a lot of time (and money, if I decide to send this one in for grading) and I'll bookmark any references for future use. Maybe even some printed literature (books, magazines, etc...) but I much prefer online research. I'll make the best of whatever I receive though! I still have to pull the images from my SD card and crop them all, but I'll post some pictures in the near future. They should be better quality than my last batch a while back which were just taken on my phone and with the coin in hand. Thanks in advance!
These aren't the greatest pictures, but they'll suffice for now. I'm hoping to get some tomorrow morning once the sun comes back up and using the daylight for some pictures. This coin really pops in the correct lighting!
Neither have I, so I'm kind of stuck on trying to identify individual types. So far I have only found a few older listings with the variety mentioned but no explanation as to what they actually are. I thought I'd reach out here because I know the majority of folks here have far more knowledge and experience in this kind of stuff than myself and perhaps they might point me in the right direction. I'm stumped for the time being on this but I'll keep digging online in hopes that I stumble upon something. This picture is a screenshot from the PCGS coinfacts app so it's not just some bogus listing or made up lol!
I found this, maybe it will help. Professional Coin Grading Service Announces its Attribution of Fletcher and Dannreuther Shield Nickel Varieties That would be Fletcher Jr and Dannreuther JD

Holy moly! $125 for the book (volume 2) on proof nickels? That's a bit too much for me. I suppose I'll just have to keep searching online and looking at different listings until I see ones that explain the variety. Thanks for the information though!
Same here I have given near $50 for educational books. Thats about as far as I go. I bet that is detailed though, something a specialist would use.
