Krause says the these are Y# 42. 3.75g bronze 23mm The first is YR12 (1923) mintage 155,500,000 and the second and third are YR11(1922) mintage 253,210,000

On the first one, the Y# is the same as above but is YR10 (1921). The 1/2 sen and the other 1 sen bear the marks of emporer Mutsuhito (1867-1912)and are YR 17 (1884) and YR 10 (1877) respectively. My book is for 1901-2000, so I have no other info on them. A member who may know for sure is hontonai. I'm just getting a small grasp of it myself and hope he will verify my statements here.

thanks for all your help. I have the 1901-2000 Krause book. Is reading these dates something I can learn fairly easily? I figured out the Arabic dates using the table at the beginning.

Lol, this is the very same way I'm learning myself. Some systems come easier than others.... Now I know who to look for with my Arabic date ?'s !!!

Thanks for your help. I think the Arabic dates are easier than the Asian dates, but the biggest problem is the 2 and the 3 in Arabic are very similar and can be hard to tell apart, especially if the coin is worn.

Looks like everything was ID'd properly before I got here.

ForTHEkids' link is to the site I consider the absolute best and most complete source of dating information on Japanese coinage.
