I recently sub-mitted a group of "Morgans" I inherited from my Grandfather, he had them in a bank vault since 1963...

I sent them to "ANACS" 8 out of the 100 came back as "cleaned" which I find doubtful as I do remember him telling me that you "never clean a coin" and he was very adament about that, but anyway to my question on these two coins (several came back with "VAMS") and I found most of them except for these two, can anyone here tell me what they are and if there is a premium for them, I do not intend to sell, at least not just now, just curious about them, many thanks in advance, Ron

Hello, to be perfectly honest, I really haven't even thought of that yet..... I only got them graded so I would know what they would be, grade wise.... I did not even ask them to tell me that they were "VAM'S", but they did...

The term VAM in short is a way of identifying die varieties found, especially on Morgan Dollars. VAM = the first initials of Van Allen's and Mallis' last names. VAM – (Van Allen/Mallis) Listed with a Van Allen/Mallis (VAM) reference number in the Comprehensive
Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace Dollars by Leroy Van Allen and George Mallis.

The term VAM is used to describe practically any deviation from a "normal" Morgan for that year and mint, such that people talk about having found a "VAM" when the variety they note hasn't even been assigned a VAM Number.

Interesting that they were attributed to VAM without charging anything extra for that service (I presume).
