Hello friends. I am looking for some help in identifying the coin below. It is part of a collection I bought of greek and roman coins. Most I have been able to find myself but this one is eluding me. It weighs 3.77 grams. Could that be a small bankers mark in front of the face? Thanks
@TIF ....Got one of these... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ro...owing-animals-other-than-horses.354471/page-2
A very fun and unique type. You are correct. That is most certainly a banker's mark. And yours is in much better condition than mine: Roman Republic, Anonymous Rome, 115-114 BCE AR denarius, 20 mm, 3.91 g, 10 h Obv: Helmeted head of Roma right, X behind, ROMA below Rev: Roma, helmeted, seated on two shields, holding spear before her, she-wolf standing right at her feet, head turned back, sucking Romulus and Remus. In left and right fields, two birds flying towards her.
Yes unusual coin which is why I couldn't find it. Thanks for your help. Any idea what the small Crescent to the right of Roma chin could be?
I edited my comment to say it is certainly a banker's mark. Which for me just adds an extra connection to its history. Very cool
