Hi everyone, I recently received a fairly large coin collection that belonged to my grandfather. He passed away in 1987 and I received the collection after my grandmother passed away earlier this year. His collection includes dozens and dozens of morgan dollars, hundreds of standing liberty halves, probably 20 years worth of proof sets, commerative coins, hundreds of buffalos, wheat pennies etc. I just recently started reading about coins and so I am new to grading. I have started a excel spreadsheet to catalouge the collection but it is taking quite some time. I am starting to get interested in the hobby myself, so I came here to get help with a few coins I've found so far. I've gone through about a tenth of his collection but already have some neat finds. The first is a 1952 Booker T. Washington / George Washington Carver. It seems to be in uncirculated condition. Were they only available this way or did they circulate? I wanted to see some opinions about grade of this coin. The second is a 1946 Booker T. Washington half that also seems to unc. as far as I can tell. The third is a 1904-S morgan silver dollar that is well worn. I thought it was interesting because it listed for more than many other of the morgans, but I didn't know how to accurately grade it. Maybe you guys would like to practice more of your grading from pictures, ha. Thanks
here is the reverse of the morgan. Another morgan I found from 1902 that he had marked as unc. I'll include those pictures as well. I noticed the pictures of this one make it seemed yellowed, when it's not at all. I think it's probably the light I took the picture under.
Howdy Exec - Welcome to the Forum !! I'd say the commems are definitley Unc. Based on the pics I'd say MS64 for both. If I had the coins in hand and could better judge the lsuter they might even make 65. As for the Morgan dollar - that date and mint mark does bring higher prices than many. I'd say your coin would grade Very Good - value about $25 - $30.
When it comes to grading coins Exec we'll all have a much easier time and be of more help to you if you can post the coins one at a time, make the pics about that size, and try to take the pics from a straight on angle and keep them as clear as you can. Grading coins from pics is tenuous at best - but with the right pic we can get pretty close
