Help with grades please on these Morgans

They both look unc to me.

 

Nice coins! I wish my cc were in that condition. IMO the older one looks like its in better condition.

 

I agree...both look uncirulated to me as well. However, the 1902 looks dipped. I may be wrong, as it's hard to tell by pics alone.

Thanks all. I was wondering if the 1899 is uncirculated which I thought it was. I don't think the 1902-O was dipped. Nice silver luster on it though. Just renewed my collectors society with NGC so I have a coupon for 5 earlybird grading coming. I have a few more morgans I aquired recently so I think I will send them in to NGC. Hoping that 1899 grades out well.

i believe that if you are an ana member, you can submit coins for grading to ngc w/o joining. both look unc to me but hesitant to give a grade as i can't tell the luster quality. fields look nice..i would agree w/ gdjmsp....thanks for sharing...how cool would it be to have an unc..1899...i feel thats a nice underrated coin....hope to add on to my set when the indiana state show comes up in one month. mine will probably be in the fine-very fine range tho. nice coins and thanks again for the pics

 

I think the 02 is a 63. The 1899 is tougher to tell, because it may be overdipped. I can't tell how much luster is left. It has the marks of a 64 coin, but may possibly not grade if it has indeed been overdipped.

 

Thanks GDJMSP, srkjkd and Shortgapbob for looking at the coins and giving your opinion on the grades and possible dipping. The 1899 doesn't have close to the luster that the 1902-O (or other Morgans that I got in the lot) have. Going to send 5 Morgans off to NGC including the 1899 and 1902-O and a couple of 1890-O's and hopefully they first be graded and second grade out well. Thanks again for all great opinions and will advise when I get them back from NGC.

 

I'm thinking the 99 was just not rinsed properly after dipping.
I'd dip it again and make sure to rinse it VERY well with distilled water.
The coin appears to have a film or residue on it to me.

 

Hate to sound ignorant but when you say dip it again what do you dip it in? Acetone? Also, I realy don't want to dip it if that will make the coin "no grade" with NGC. Thanks.

he is talking about silver dip, which will remove some of the toning and some of the surface.

I thought he might of meant that but wasn't sure. Think I will make a run down to the coin shop and see what he has to say with the coin in hand. Let you know what he says.

 

Yep, that's what I was talking about.
A lot of times guys will use the same container of acetone on several coins.
The coins that are last in line will get some of the residue that was removed from the coins dipped earlier.
It's just a guess.
But, I swear I can see a little luster peeking out there on a few spots on that 99.

 

Well took it to the coin shop and he agreed that it looked like the 1899 was dipped and was some residue on it. He also thought there was some wear on the are so it thought it was more like an AU-58. Said the 1902-O wasn't dipped. Tried to redip and a nice rinse in distilled water. Didn't seem to do much.
