    1780 Russian 5 Kopek

Figured I would update the title since I can't figure out if I can move or delete the thread.

    Found metal detecting....

I'll try to describe the coin the best I can for now until I can get photos. The coin is the size of a Morgan/Peace Dollar and rather heavy.

Side 1: The coin appears to have a picture of an eagle. The eagle has an older style crown above its head and looks to be holding something in talon that is long and skinny. To and angle of the talon the right side of the eagle is a letter 'M'. Under the eagle is a banner with some writing that I can't make out. My wife thinks some of the letters are Kourert.

Side 2: There are at least 2 large symbols that look almost like dollar signs. Along the bottom of the coin appears to be two wheat things or branches (similar to a wheat cent). What appears to be a date is located just above center of the coin (not on the bottom). The numbers 17 are on the left side of the symbols described aboe and the number(s) 8x are on the right.

Hopefully I can get the photos to work and thanks for any help.

This is a 'Catherine the Great' 5 Kopek copper. I have several of these in my collection. I can post photos later this evening.
