I'm out of my bailiwick here with this Greek bronze. It falls under the broad category of "similar to BMC 69-78" and "similar to Sear 3642," but it doesn't have a monogram in the left field and the monogram in the right field bears no resemblance at all to those in BMC. It looks like a rocket on a launch pad; something like this: .

The question I have is whether anyone knows which particular magistrate might have issued this coin and when? Is there a more specific reference/attribution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Amisos Gorgon 2.jpg
    Pontus, Amisos, c. 85-65 BC?
    Greek Æ 19.6 mm, 8.39 g, 12 h.
Obv: Aegis, with Gorgon's head at center.
Rev: Nike advancing right, carrying palm branch with filet, ΑΜΙ-ΣΟΥ across field, Monogram to right.
Refs: cf. Sear 3642; cf. BMC 13.19-20,62-78.

That IS a match! Is it your coin? Where did you buy it? Do you have a link to a web page on which this coin appears?

@ominus1.....Yes it is one I like but the reverse is a little bit too far offset for me, certainly a nice coin though....One question regarding your coin post...This was a type I really looked into purchasing for my 12 Olympian set as I need an Ares portrait. I like the type but I'm quite confused on whose portrait is being depicted?
So many sellers have this attributed to Athena or Ares??...Any ideas?

@Roman Collector It looks like Catalogue of Greek coins, Pontus, Paphlagonia, Bithynia and the Kingdom of Bosporus", Vol. 13, p. 20, No. 75

@cmezner.....I'm probably wrong here but 75 is showing a monogram in the left field?....I dont think there is one on the op coin?....Also 75 shows a vertical line to the left of the 'rocket' with a horizontal line atop running to the right?....I do wish I had more reference books!.......This one looks to be the same as #75 with the above stated monograms matching but 'also' has the same black sea 1178 ref??
    https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/da...orgon_at_center/1517526/Default.aspx......Now I'm really confused!?

There is a 50-year-old book by Malloy The Coinage of Amisus.

Get it if you intend to collect by monogram or verify if a monogram has been published. There is also a paper in French but I can't recall the name.

Here is the actual SNG BM (Black Sea) 1178 listing (1st image). It is the same specimen catalogued as BMC XIII, p. 19, 70 (2nd image). Not a match to the op, unfortunately.
