Here is a coin I got in a lot of coins at a sale. Just wondering what it was and where it was from. It is the same size as a US cent but thicker. Thanks!
A token from a foreign telephone company? Not too many people younger than 50 would recognize the second photo as a depiction of a rotary telephone dial.
I'll comment since I've personally used these :smile It's an Israeli public telephone token. In hebrew, it's called an "Assimon" (Ah-See-Moan). The gazelle there in the circle is the symbol of the Israeli mail service (like the blue white eagle for USPS here), and the back 2 words under the numbers says "Doar Israel" = "Mail, Israel". The wiki article below has a caption under the picture that says it was used until the late 80s, but I personally used some in the mid to late 90s, the public phones still took them. It's mentioned on wikipedia, too : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_token
I'm still using a rotary lol (age 42) I never have trouble with it, all the newer phones die within a year or two, so the land-line stays as a rotary lol
