    :confused: :confused::confused::confused::confused:
O.K. so like a total da I bid on a discount coin on ebay:desk::desk::desk:. It was a "21 peace dollar in cert by pcgs to be ms 65" the auction was in its final minutes and it had no bids (should of told me to stay away), after bidding less than 1/3 of its fmv value I got real nervous. As I started investigating. I realized the slab was fake. The cert number was invalid it was actually in NCG format on a "PCGS" Holder. The bottom corner on the slab where it says PCGS was coped out of the picture. Also the coin just looked off.

As the auction was ending I sent him a message asking for pictures of the hologram on the back and uncroped pictures of the front. The seller (who for the time being will remain nameless. I'm hoping he will still do the right thing, and I don't want to **** him off before he cancels the auction. If he does not do the right thing I will tell all of you who he is), and I will also post who he is once this is over. He sent me back a smart A reply asking if I had buyers remorse. I then sent him back a message saying "please send the pictures" I get one back saying "whats going on here you bought this coin". So I then like a fool sent him one back saying that he was selling fake coins and that it was wrong and I was not going to pay him. I should not of dune that. Because now he is ****ed saying that Im going to take the strike and and tried to guilt trip me by accusing me of braking my word. ( I also live in a state that says you can return anything in 30 days so I am not used to the you bought it your stuck with it attitude)

What should I do. Just let him file the complaint and take the no payment strike form e-bay and tell them what happened? Tell pcgs. Call my AG. This whole thing makes me really mad. It was so fraudulent. His description said Guaranteed Authentic when it is in a fake holder how could I ever pay him the money.

I know it is very much my fault for bidding on something fake, but he Is an American Seller with 100% positive feedback and over 2k items sold. I feel completely taken advantage of.

What would you all do in my shoes? Also please don't say " I wouldn't buy fake crap off ebay because it does not help"

the slab says PCS not PCGS so possibly that was a ploy to get some bidding on a coin in a no-name slab

I guess I am going to have to buy it or just take the strike and hope they don't cancle my account. HMM crap this sux

You need to post the listing for several reasons. First and foremost, we need to see what the auction title was. The coin in the photograph is not even close to a PCGS and even says PCS on the label. However, if he used the letters "PCGS" in his auction listing title, he broke rules and even if he used "PCS" in his title he broke rules and I think in both cases E-Bay would side with you.

However, if he did not use grading company letters in the auction listing title and he clearly states no returns, it is a case of caveat emptor. Considering you bid $500 on this POS, you should definitely take the no payment strike.

Without a link to the listing, we really can't give you any worthwhile advice.

Take the strike and explain to the folks at e-bay why you didn't complete the transaction. They may not agree with why you cancelled but they won't ditch your account. I've done it and survived.....

before you make any final decisions wait until someone who can give some insight on the authenticity of the coin chimes in.....who knows could be real....I couldn't say.

Update: O.K. we are all good! He cancled the transaction. I was not sure he was going to because we talked back and forth almost real time and then when I asked to cancle the transaction he just stoped replying.

Thanks everyone for the help. I def learnd a hudge lesson.

It is not against E-Bay rules to sell them, it is against E-Bay rules to advertise the third world slab name in the auction listing title. If you can't post a link, did the title include either "PCGS" or "PCS"?

In addition, what is the return policy?

It actually didn't say PCGS in the title of the auction.

His return policy is 3 days after recipt. Then he says he gets 7 days to return the money threw pay pal - a 5% restocking fee.

I read it again and it just says slabed ms 65. Investor grade coin really nice ect ect ect.

I'm really happy that it worked out like it did. The busniess of coins is really not for me. I need to leave it up to the pros. I just saw the price and that it was in a slab, and I guess saw the p the c and the s and thought it was pcgs. My brain works that way some times.

I def learnd a hudge lesson on this one.

I just found the auction with a little searching on eBay...the title says nothing about the coin being slabbed nor does it give a grade. The title is "1921 HIGH RELIEF PEACE SILVER DOLLAR ++ SUPER ++ MS +++"

ur right. But when you click on it it does. and the picture has a grade and it does say ms. Like I said it was a dumb thing to do that worked out well in the end.

    Okay,

Offer to pay the seller the $20 restocking fee, tell him to keep the coin, and move on.

If you are trying to make money in the coin business, I am afraid that you are right, the coin business is not for you. At this point, you just don't have the requisite knowledge to make a profit buying and selling coins. However, if you simply want to be a collector because you like coins, I think you will be fine. Just continue to learn and be patient. Besides, you have Cointalk and it's members as a resource to help you along the way. Hopefully we can help you avoid learning lessons like this one the hard way.

Thanks Leigh: I really do like coins. I always have. side story got my first coin book when I was in 1st grade for making all A's. I also like to make money. It seems so simple, buy a coin for a dollar sell it for two. Unfortanly its not. I guess I should be glad I don't have to sell amway for a living and keep to my day job. CT is great! I have really enjoyed the past year reading and posting here. It is also why I brought my problem to all of you because I knew yall would give me good advice.

    Your OP specifically said this:

"O.K. so like a total da I bid on a discount coin on ebay:desk::desk::desk:. It was a "21 peace dollar in cert by pcgs to be ms 65"" If ANYWHERE in the listing it stated PCGS then the seller is a fraud.

That was a summerie of what I thought I bought never said it was the title of the auction. I thought it was a 65 pcgs coin for dirt cheep. Thought I was going to make a couple of hundered dollars with little or no effort. OBV was wrong. Like I said before misread pcs for pcgs very dumb thing to do.
