Ok guys, i need your help. I have this note that somewhere along the lings got attributed to Korea. While trying to post it on my website, i tried to re-attribute it - i cannot seem to find a referance to it anywhere. I cant find it on the net, i cant find it in my trusty books - so i have come to the place i should have started, not ended... Cointalk :D

So .. here is the note
    Obverse
    Reverse

To me - the note looks so very fake! The printing looks blurry, and the detail just doesnt seem to be on par with other world notes. That being said, i dont have any other currency from either North or South Korea to compare with. So, if anyone out there has ANY idea where this note is from .. and if its legite... Please help :)

    thanks.

PS.. i even looked into Chinese Hell notes ... no matches :(

The top line on both sides is "???? Bank" and at the bottom right it's "???? Bank Paper Money".

The black characters on the second line are Korean calligaraphy and the red characters in a circle next to the signatures is a seal.

The bank's name is pronounced "Ten Chi" in the Japanese reading, but I haven't got the faintest idea how it is pronounced in Korean.

I can't find a date anywhere on the note, nor can I find anything to say what it's 1000 of.

It doesn't have any resemblance to mid-1950s South Korean currency, which is the only currency of the peninsula which I am familiar with; but my gut reaction is South Korean Won.

well, thanks for the help so far, its a start :) I did a search on google images for korea 1000 won, which is an easy way i have found to help identify notes. It did not turn up anything that looked like what i have got.

    Thanks again!

Looks like it is a Chinese Hell note, but one designed to look Korean.

Here is an ebay auction I found

(Just in case if anyone was wondering this is not my auction)

i gotta luv this auction... "These Notes Are Uncirculated, and Come in Their Original Wrapper. These Notes Have Beautiful Artwork and Vivid Colors"

the artowrk would truly be cool looking if it werent so blurry :D

I didint buy the note i was askign about, it came in a bundle i bought. I wont be buying any more of those... thats for certain! The notes is 1000 Yuan, telling me its Chinese, but made to 'resemble' Korean notes.... So would this note fall under Chinese hell notes... or Korean???

    thanx defiant7 for the help!

I asked a collector in Korea about this note, and here is his response:
I found the genuine reverse it's modeled after: www.guardianfx.com/banknotes/asia/KRW_10000b.jpg , but the obverse isn't anywhere on the first 5 pages of a Google search on 10,000 won.
