I was attributing some Civil War Tokens yesterday and ran into one that seems like it's unlisted. This is from the Broas (pronounced "Bwas") Pie Bakers which is a very common New York City merchant. The obverse is stock die variety # 1060. The reverse appears to be merchant variety # 29315. The die marriage, according to the latest book is 29315/1061. There is no 29315/1060. The 1060 die is supposed to be married to the 29310 die. Here are the photos. If you have the new store card book, what do you think? I know I have the obverse attributed correctly. What about the reverse (merchant) side? Stock die 1060 Merchant die 29315?
The diagnostic point on the merchant die is the positioning of the star, the "H" below it and the "T" below that. Die 29310 has the left side of the "H" lined up with the left side of the "T." This one, 29315, has it to the left of the "T."
On the Civil War Token Society website (cwtsociety.com) there is a list of errors and omissions for the 3rd edition of Store Cards. Here is one for Broas. NY-630L pics of dies 29310 & 29315 need to be reversed (and the die explosion) So your token is actually 29310/1060.
