So I got some Anthony dollars and some of the rims obviously look wide or not, but I have no experience with this coin and would like some help. Sorry for the crazy flash/lighting on some of the pics, still trying to get a coin picture taking system down.

I'm pretty sure #1 is narrow, but just posted as reference.

A little tough to say for sure from those pictures but I think: 1. narrow; 2. wide; 3. narrow; 4. not sure, but leaning towards wide; 5. narrow.

Those are my takes on them but I have 2 SBA's and they are a heck of alot easier to tell in hand.

So did '79 dollars start with narrow rim then went to wide from here on out?

#2 and #4 are wide rim...the narrow rim was minted first.

I think a better test is to check how close the date comes to the border. If the centering of the strike is off, you can get a narrow rim when you should have had a wide one.

Although narrow rims are the first design, some wide rims were released on the first day of issue.

The mint has calculated that wide rims should be common due to the number of dies made. I think the fallacy there is that demand fell off and mintage was cut back and many, many 1979 wide rim dies were not used at all.

Here are 3 SBA's I own the wide rim variety is the middle one. See how close the rim has to come to the 9 ... ;) IMG_7462.jpg

I think your #2 may be wide.

Nice pic example. Mine do not seem as easy to distinguish.

Also is there a big market for these?
