Found this in a roll today what do you think? Does this coin carry any value? Thanks, this is the first one of these I have found.
2nd most rare wide am behind the 1999 wide am. Valued in the condition at $2.50 199 wide ams go for around 250
The coin has been around the block a time or two but it is cool to find one. I have been using my redbook and searching rolls about every day.
Nice find! You could drive a truck through that space between the A and M. Hang on to it. It takes years for coins like that to appreciate in value. They are really hard to find now and will only get harder and harder to find. You are one of the lucky ones, congrats.
thanks, yeah I think I will hang on to it. It is one thing to go out and buy them but it is cool to find one. I wish I had started looking when I was young. I cant count the times that i helped my grandpa roll pennies and had no ideal what may have slipped through my hands.
Actually, they are not that hard to find and more and more are being found all the time. The values have been dropping over the past couple of years as more are discovered. The 1999 is the only one of the 3 majors that has proved to be rare.
Hi BadThad, for casual collectors like me WAM's are hard to find. I used to go through two bricks a week but now it's down to one. Concentrating on small silver coins nows. It is still an event for me to discover a WAM. I didn't know they were getting more and more-----'unscarce'. (my word ).
keep an eye on this... http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-10-1998-P-W...52?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2a128c0ffc
I may be wrong but I think the proof dies were the wide AM and some of the 1998, 1999 and 2000 business strikes were made in error with the proof dies. Dont take my word for it but that is the way I understand it. Im sure if Im wrong someone will be along in a few to clear the air for us both.
Lucky! I always look for those WAM's and I havent found one yet. im also at about a block every week.
