Help with 1957 error?

    The date has what are called Die Chips.
    It's common on Cents minted in the 1950's.
    Minor error.

    So if not doubled,then its a rpm correct?and the date is from die chip,not machine doubling,Thanks paddyman

    A true RPM has nothing to do with a Doubled Die. The mint mark during this period was hand punched into the Obverse Die.
    Date is Die Chip. It's not an actual chip that is in the date but a Chip on the Obverse Die, a tiny piece that fell away. So the metal fron the Blank Planchet flows into the space as it is being struck.

    OP,

    You may want to spend some quality time on the below site (there are others as well) familiarizing yourself with the different types of varieties, forms of doubling, etc, etc. There's a lot to digest, for sure, but making the effort is one of if not the biggest "gift" you can give yourself as a participant in this particular area of the hobby.
