"Why" is because someone had too much time on their hands. :)

Seriously. These were commonly created, as "love tokens" or commemorations of specific dates in the life of the person involved. The better-executed ones actually find interest as collectable; love tokens are a subspecialty of more than a few collectors if that gives you an idea of how many are out there.

Thanks. This love token name is beautifully written in script and does have a specific date on it. Seems too nice to be done by just anyone on the farm. Thanks for your help.

Me, too. Some really beautiful work was done on these, and they're usually contemporary and as such a bit of history in themselves. One always hates to see a Classic coin disfigured, but sometimes it results in another worthy thing.

Hope these pics are clear enough. It reads. "From William W? Childs March 12th"

Nice. Yeah, that falls into the "desirable artwork" category. :)

I like it :) I like pieces that have history behind them. Wish we could know more about who it was from/to. Very cool :)

I really enjoy Love Tokens. Yours is a very nice piece, better than most of mine.
