Help with 1500's Peru 2 Reales

    There are several different 2 reales for this date range and my reference does not provide pictures only simple descriptions that don't help. They go from $250- $2,000 in this condition. Does anyone know enough to help me on this one?

    I had looked there and saw a 1 real but didn't find a 2 real.

    Matt -

    What you have there is a 2 reales from Mexico, not Peru. It was minted between 1548 and 1567 under the assayer Luis Rodriguez. It is a type III (Mx-147). It is distinguished by the L to left and M to right. And the type of L (crossed top leg) distinguishes it from the type V.

    Matt do you have the Sewall Menzel book ? If you don't, you need to get it.

    I don't have it. I seldom see this early stuff come in the shop but it looks like I need to get it.
