Help, what is this pitting?

    Hi picked up this coin a few days ago and was wondering if anybody can tell by my picture what the pitting is between the U and M in the word UNUM or how maybe its a die error or human error ? Any info would be much appreciated thank you very much

    Is that scratching around it? If I am seeing what I think I am, I'd say it is some sort of post-mint damage. Couldn't really say exactly what it is, though.

    Agreed. The coin also looks to have been harshly cleaned at some point.
