Hello all, I bought 5 Swiss coins a few months ago because there was silver in it and I bought other coins from the seller. The lot cost $2.50 I only recently started researching my foreign coins (other than Irish and British) today because I only got a Krause catalog recently and I have a come across a few that will get me some money. This was one of the biggest eye catchers as to value for me. As you can see from the title I`m looking for a value for it and a simple grade (Vg,F,VF etc) Some of the details from Krause: Date Mintage F VF XF Unc BU 1899B 500,000 8.00 16.00 55.00 270 400 Thanks -Owen
I would say that coin is a F. For that guess, I am using the level of leaf detail and the fact the LIBERTAD is still intact but weak as my primary guides, (not knowing the series very well).
Theres a untouched one from bing images Thanks for your help medoraman. I was looking on ebay completed listings and can`t see any of these that have sold or are for sale kinda mysterious Thanks
Oh found 3 on ebay, I must have had worldwide search off. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/SVIZZERA-10-...t=Monete_Europee_pre_Euro&hash=item19c9b5ed7b This one is pretty poor^^^ http://www.ebay.ie/itm/SWITZERLAND-...418?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae5bbb01a This is good but cleaned ^^^ So what do you think would be the value of mine as I will be selling it as I have no interest in Swiss coinage
Boy, that first one is seriously overgraded. "Conservative European grading" my rear. As for value, I am not sure. It seems lots of coins are going over book nowadays, but those are two auctions that haven't sold, I am not sure how valuable comparisons they are. What you need is a completed auction result to get a feel for the value in my opinion, or someone here who is an expert in this area. Chris
My Krause disk has it at $4.00 in fine condition, which would be generally what yours would grade. My Krause doesn't have a publish date in it's PDF file though, your edition may be newer, although the values in there are arbitrary and I just use them as a guideline. EDIT my 1900 - 2000 disk has a grading guideline in the front, see if yours does.
Thanks Billy, I`m only getting used to using my krause yet only have it for a week. I see it is under the how to use this catalog. Thank you! :thumb:
If that is the way to grade,I would say it is between F and VF, but angling more to F. Ok, thank you all for your help and time!!
Not sure whether your comment about the silver content was actually about the coin you show in the first post ... Anyway, that is a Cu-Ni piece. Christian
I got the Impression he bought the lot because it had some silver in it, and the one he posted was another coin in the lot. He looked it up in Krause so he should know it's CN
A bit off the topic but I bought this with 4 other Swiss coins the silver was a 1909 franc and a 1898 1/2 franc, the others were two more 10 rappen
