I’m not a big collector of coins, although I love antiquities and anything of old. I guess I’ve never been in this situation of infatuation. Found this coin in a town of French descendants I believe, established in the 1700s. One of the first early settlements west of the Mississippi and along it’s banks. But I found this coin and cannot find anything pertaining to its origin, or worth or anything.can anyone help or send me in the right direction.
If you turn picture # 2 about 180 degrees, you will see a weird portrait half man-half animal....Could it be Faun, Pan, or the Minotaur ?? ??
Looks like Man-headed bull or also called 'Achelous', a river god, but definitely not an ancient coin.
Yes I seen the half man half animal. I’ve scrutinized this thing and looked everywhere to even find what it could be. I only came to this thread to see if anyone could point me in the right direction. Didn’t think it was ancient by any means. Never said that. Coin? Idk! That’s why I asked. Guess I barked up the wrong tree, thank you!
Well, it may not be ancient, but it is interesting, Frenchy. I just did a Google search of man headed bull coins and didn't see anything quite like it. There is similar man-headed bull coin reproduction that was apparently a give-away for TIME-Life books some years back - but your is not a match for this. Keep digging - I'd be interested to see what you discover. And welcome to the Forum, by the way.
I whole hearted agree. Glad you posted your token? There is this thread. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-see-your-exonumia.203005/page-435#post-3287007 Ask your question there. And Happy new year!
