$2 under face, I will take that all day long...

Why do think it is not genuine? It is probably under face value because of the condition: stains, creases... Seems a decent price to pay for a note in that condition.

Why sell it under face when you could take it to the bank or a store and get face. Am I missing something here?

I thought that it could be counterfeit.:D

So how much is it worth, more than 100$?

YES, but how? for what reason were you thinking this?

It is obviously "worth" what you paid for it, $98 unless you can find a buyer willing to pay more, then that's what it's worth. plain and simple, that is what worth in these things comes to mean. I doubt you will get more than face with the amount of distracting stains it has and the amount of creases and circulation.

But wait.....isn't it worth $100 at a bank?

Why would you ever sell currency under face? I don't get it?

Yes, it is worth $100 face at a bank. Where was the note bought? eBay? If on eBay a seller might start the auction at $0.01 and the item was bid up to $98... We need the OP to chime in here and explain the source or terms of sale to do anything other than speculate. It is commonplace to list an auction item far below the value it will sell for on the market even if, in the case of this note, it does not realise it's full face value.

I thought that it is worth more, than 100$, because it's from 1928, an it is in good condition (stains are not enormous).:smile

    Ok thanks everyone

it is worth more than $100

Then how much? Because the OP defined it's current worth at $98 by paying that amount. How much is it worth to you? How much would YOU pay for it? That's how much more it's worth, to YOU and you only.

For ME, with those stains and creases, face or anything less is what it is worth.

It is worth what you paid for it, $98. If it were someone else may have gotten it and likely because it would have been in better condition. Age is not a determiner of value. And that is not something I would call 'good' condition, far below it with those glaring stains which drive most currency collectors in the opposite direction.

Great pickup! Reminds me of the $5 silver cert I picked up on ebay last month with free shipping for $4.50.

Whether it is real or not, I couldn't say, but it probably is legitimate. What surprises me is that you would spend money on something you know absolutely nothing about. The fact that it is a Series 1928 does not necessarily mean that it was printed in 1928. This design was printed every year until the next design change in 1934.

No offense, but if you are interested, I have a talking pig I will sell you for $5K.

That's a bit harsh don't you think. Just about everyone has spent money on something they know almost nothing about, that doesn't make them naive.
