I won 3 NGC certified Lincolns off eBay late Friday at ridiculously low prices (at least in my opinion) all from the same dealer. 44-S - MS67 ($7), 45 S - MS67 ($9), and 55 - MS66 ($7) all red. Shipping was listed as $3 each, but it said nothing about combining shipping. I have written the man 4 times since asking about combined shipping. I finally got an answer today. “It appears that someone has hacked my account and have 18 messages of tampering. Don't pay for anything yet. I have to investigate what is happening with this issue. At this point I'm not going to complete any transaction and am considering closing this account. Gary” Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should proceed?:headbang:
this is utter tripe. he's trying to weasel out of the deal - he should have had a shill or reserve. report him if he fails to honor the auction. -Steve
The former (shill) would truly make him a crook. I would give him a bit of time to make good on the transaction...give him the benefit of the doubt...maybe a week then report him if he still refuses to close the deal.
I had a transaction last year with the 3 coin anniversery silver set. I won the set with a bid of 1/2 what they were going for elsewhere.. the guy told me the same thing .. his first email told me the auction was a joke and that he wasnt actually selling the set. the second email i got was from ebay saying his account had been hacked (thats what he told ebay) i sent ebay a copy of the sellers 1st email to me, but Ebay didnt care ... i never did get the set i wasnt terribly upset, i had bought me a set from the mint, but was looking for a second set ... hopefully sellers like this get weeded out and booted off !!!
What good will that do. If he leaves, the most I can get is a negative in return. As of this moment, I have not paid him. If I do and he leaves, I am out. If I do not, I get nothing.
Oh! FYI; he lives in Fort Worth and my daughter will be moving to Fort Worth next month. I wonder what my possibilities are of suing him?
good luck with that one... cut your losses. eBay is not worth the headaches - it has become a scammers paradise and they thrive under the protection of eBay. look at the terms closely. -Steve
ebay closes accounts that were hacked, this is a scam, he wanted more for the coins, he "has" to honor the price..but sounds like he will slip out.
you can tell him, that's fine...lets do a separate transaction for the coins, at the prices you won them at. it would only be fair.
Give the seller nothing untill he makes his intentions clear. Then proceed with caution!!!!!!! Sounds like he's gonna drop his account. If you here nothing by mid week from him. Contact ebay and Play by their rules. Nothing yet? Pound him with neg's if you need to and call it a day! Your out NO money but you may need a couple of advil. Chuck
Consider the possibility that his account really was hacked, and that he was not the person offering the coins you bid on. If that is what actually happened, he doesn't have the coins to ship, and you are just lucky that he discovered the hacking before you irretrievably paid the hacker.
