HI all, Found this today. I don't know if it's a DD or something else. Any opinions would really help. Thanks
it is not a doubled die. it is however machine doubling. see how the mint mark is doubled too? thats a tell tale sign its mdd
Hi, Welcome to the forum! It is a strong MDD, Machine Doubling Damage. The flattened secondary image is the prime identification point. In a true Doubled Die, the 2 images would be close to similar height. Nice looking coin however. Normal value. jim
I don't think it's a DD because the S looks doubled as well as the date and part of Lincoln's face. It also looks like there's a huge gash going around the rim of the coin that's definitely PMD. The doubling is probably PMD as well.
Sorry - same verdict as before. It's a nice example of strong MD though, and if I had it I'd keep it.
I am not an error collector, however I have read all of the threads about hopeful DD's. This is the most dramatic MDD I have seen posted on this forum. Cool coin and great conversation piece for sure.
