    Was the other one the same year? If so, was it in the exact same place? If so, it could be a Rad MAD clash.

    Since you seem to think it is a clash, tell us what element on the reverse die could have created this?

    I don't see that your overlay lines up with the marks above the date, but even with that, please explain how the hammer & anvil dies could be about 33% out of alignment.

    It would be the denticles from the rim. It could only happen like the overlay above...a radically misaligned die clash.

    Could the hammer die been dropped on the advil die during assembly?

    The point I'm trying to make is that your theory with the original photo doesn't jive with the close-up of the area above the date. This does look like a clash, but it doesn't have the same alignment.

    The first set of images do not show anything above the date. It just shows, what appear to be, a clashed set of denticles near the rim. You wanted an explanation of how it could happen. I believe that's why eddio posted the other images...to show a rad MAD. I don't know what you are getting at, Chris. I didn't theorize that they were the same and should jive.
