Anyone here familiar with 1890 CC VAMS??? I have one that I can not find in my 4th edition vam book but realize there is alot more newer vams listed now. Mine I guess you would call a doubled reverse but there is none online or in the vam book. It has doubled motto, wings, wreath and even the tail feathers resemble the 78 7/8 reverse with just 2 extra tail feathers----between 1 and 2, and 2 and 3. Mine is a raw lady, solid ef, so details are not as good as we would like them to be. If anyone has heard of this or can assign it a vam #,,I would be very grateful. Will try to get some close-ups tomorrow if anyone needs to see them.
You might want to send them here-- http://varslab.com I know this guy and he will attribute and encapsulate your VAM's for a small fee-- Since I know nothing about VAM's other than what I am told I can't be of much help--sorry. Speedy
I would recommend the same gentleman that Speedy has suggested - he is one of the recognized experts for this. And he provides a unique service. And if your coin is new VAM - he will see to it that you get credit for the discovery
A VAM is the name given to the various varieties of Morgan or Peace dollars. Each VAM has its own unique number and diagnostics.
It is a variety on Morgan and Peace Dollars...they were started by 2 men by the name of Leroy Van Allen and A. George Mallis. Through the years it has grown to many collectors. I never have really gotten into it, but have looked at a lot of VAMS....if you like Morgan and Peace dollars VAMS might be for you. Speedy PS I think the web-site is www.vamlink.com I might be wrong
