PCGS Price Guide lists that SLQ @ $1350 - $1615.

    Offer the seller $1300.

Not a bad coin, but not a great one either....

Seems a bit high priced, and the hit across liberty's head (which is where anyone who is an aficionado of the series looks) would stop me from buying the coin myself. This is a very common coin, and you can do better, IMO.

    Patience, grasshopper....Mike

p.s. another strike against the coin, IMO, is that it's a weakly struck example of a generally-well-struck issue.

p.s.s. that's not -- at all -- to suggest the coin is a bad coin. To the contrary, I think it is quite nice -- just not $1600 nice and I do feel strongly that you can do better with a bit of patience.

p.s.s. why are you buying the coin? For type? If so, why pay the premium for the S mint? You'd get a heck of a lot more coin for $1600 in a P mint. If you are collecting the series, please excuse the question. :)

    Wow,

My sentiments exactly. The hit on the head is way too noticeable for a coin in an MS65 holder and no full head on a 1917. The toning is nice, but not fantastic. I am with Mike and would wait for a better example with a better price.

Wow, I just noticed the head. Jeeze. I would skip on that one.

its is lovely but not quite worth $1600 more like $1300. just keep searching im sure you'll find a better deal and you'll be happy you waited

On a coin like this you can almost always offer 20% less than the asking price without offending anyone.

    $1600 -20% = $320

Offer the seller $1280 and see what they say.

I'm a sucker for a toned SLQ and I needed a S mint to finish the series. Your advise is greatly appreaticiated. Thanks guys....

That's a beautiful coin, no doubt. The toning commands a premium IMO. But the price is too much for me. If I was after a 1917 S TY I SLQ in mint state, I'd personally drop it down to an MS 63, you can still find a nice example in this grade for about a third of the price.

If I had the cash, I'd consider the coin. Hit and all.

I would pass, I am sure for that kind of money you could find a nice full head example, also it looks like there are two distracting marks on Libertys right breast, plus I have never seen a worse example of Liberties head, the professional grader must have taken 5 seconds instead of six when they graded that coin.

It's a nice coin, but it's a "but" coin... as in "It's nice, but..."

The hit on the head is a DQ

The first thing I noticed is very muted luster. For some reason, I have seen a number of SLQ type 1s lately with wonderful luster.

Part of me likes the toning, but it's also a bit splotchy for my taste.

The coin actually reminds me of my own 1917 SLQ
