I was given this coin to me by my late father. He recieved it as a gift during a business trip. I believe the trip was to Saudi Arabia in the late seventies. It appears to be gold. Any ideas what this is? Was it a commin coin? Was it actually circulated? Thanks. I wished I asked him when he was alive.
That is a saudi gold token/medal to commemorate the death of king faisal. it was minted in a.h. 1395, or the western year 1975. It should be 1.45 ounces of gold, and should be 40 mm in diameter. I am not sure if it has any value over melt value for gold or not. i do know it was a low mintage medal. i hope this helps you.
You should join Heritage Auctions. They have free registration. Although you have to give them your info to do so, it allows you to get the pricing info, etc. They have info on one that sold in 2005 (looks to be the same, but I am not an expert in this coin, so I don't know if there were other "versions" of this, but there may not have been) for between 700 and 800 dollars. Also by doing a search for "saudi arabia king faisal 1975 gold" (images) and clicking on some of the pictures of this coin, you can find other information and instances of this coin.
