Really looking for a second opinion on this coin... I've handled only a few of these coins and know how good some fakes can be and one thing I'm not good at is spotting them from photos.. I was about to buy this coin then had a sudden ... Any thoughts gratefully received Thanks ...Paul Weight: 7,75 g. Diameter: 26 mm.
What aspect of it has you concerned? These 8 Annas pieces are historically significant. They have an intimate connection to the U.S. Pittman Act and the creation of the Peace dollar.
Thanks p98 another collector has said the same thing and feels the wood grain would be difficult to fake.. I'm quite experienced in collecting British Indian coins in general but one thing I'm not good at is spotting fake 8 Annas from photos...So in answer to your question paranoia.....I must admit I personnally feel the coin is real...The rim looks good and general overall wear looks quite uniform..Style of portrait weight and size fit...You probably understand I just haven't got it in my hands to be sure! Maybe I'm just being over cautious ?...Paul
No, no, if all you have to work with is photos, you're right to be concerned. I have to keep reminding myself that the fact that I deal 100% in person makes ME the outlier.
Thanks Dave....Just out of curiosity what price would you put on this coin? Also small world my wife is from Brough!
LOL, Brough is 5 miles from me, I just did a house clearance there last week. Where are you ? My Krause puts a $8.50 valuation in that condition.
In sunny Spain...for 15 years! Love it! OUCH! This one is going for 40 bucks....Looking around I think Krause is really out of date on prices..Paul
Yours is the Bombay mint. I'm not sure which version of Krause is referenced above (the one I have says a similar value), but if you look at the NGC website, it has more up-to-date pricing information: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...as-km-520-1919-1920-cuid-1131119-duid-1476964 This website indicates that $40 is probably a reasonable value.
