Hello, If you could please help me identify this coin, it would be great. I've been looking around on the internet and couldn't find any similar coin (especially the serpent on the back). It's silver and measures a diameter of 15-15.16 mm / around 0.59 inches. Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot.
This is an old greek coin and may be a replica. Alot of these are made nowa days for souveniers. However, I've never seen any silver ones of this type, just copper. There is a copper one for auction on ebay that has the same obverse as yours. http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-replica-cop...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea7c5a76c Search eBay for old Greek coins and you may be able to locate a similar coin and maybe get some more information on it.
I am not convinced its fake. The posted link is about useless, the only point of comparison being that both coins have Zeus on their obverse. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find another example of this piece or an attribution. I'll stumble across it soon, though.
Thank you for the trying to find it. The coin has been in my family since before WW2. I'll keep on trying, i guess.
