Hi people, I have a coin which I cannot identify properly, please if you have the time and the wish help me with that "puzzle" I think that it can be a Greek coin, maybe the sitting men is Zeus (but what about the lion?) and the thing which looks like a horse is the flying horse Pegasus but I am not sure Thank you all in advance!
Well it looks greek and the charecter would be Hercules (Heracles) after slaying the Nemean lion (1st of his 12 tasks) on the revese it looks like a Gryphon and a bee
It is supposed to be from Thrace, Abdera to be exact. Thrace, Abdera. Tetradrachm ca. 400. ABDH Griffin seated to l. with raised forepaw, cicada on l. Rev. EPIFILA-DOS Heracles seated half l. with head facing on rock covered with lion’s skin. He holds club in r. hand resting on r. knee. The example above sold at auction early this year for roughly 5,500 USD. You might notice there are differences. Yours is fake...like the ones below: sorry. I sure hope this coin doesnt find its way to ebay being sold as genuine.
Sorry that it's a fake , would of fooled me . Thats why they say buy the book befor the coin . Hope you do better next time . rzage
Hey guys I am not looking to fool anyone, I even don't have this coin the point was to learn something about the coin itself not the price Actually the pictures are taken from a guy who was asking for the price but I was just interested from the coin and couldn’t find any information. Thank you all, I really appreciate your help!
