Hello I am new here please help me to identify this coin ,, I've just Bought it Thank You So Much In Advance
Looks like 12 nummi, Sasanian occupation of Alexandria, Khusro II. Scarce, and not a type you often run into without knowing what it is. Nice specimen !
Great lookin' coin, GreekoRoman (welcome) JA is awesome => he nailed the coin-ID (*edit* ... I meant "THC") Ummm, I also happen to have an example ... Byzatine Empire, Sassanian occupation of Egypt AE 12 Nummi / Khusro II circa 618-628 AD 19.66 mm 8.26 grams Obverse: cuirassed bust of Khusro facing, wearing crown with simple cross, star to left, C to right Reverse: Cross on globe between I-B, AΔEΣ in exergue Reference: DOC 191;SB 855
There is disagreement as to the exact dating of this piece. Hahn (MIB) thinks that it belongs to the reign of Heraclius, rather than the Sassanian occupation.
Looking at it stylistically, it ofcourse very well could be. But the sassanian attribution does give the coin an extra hint of oriental mystery, which i don't mind. Here number three, so we have a crowd ! A bit rough, but he has seen some fighting in his time.
ooops ... sorry THC, I didn't mean to gyp you outta your ID-credit (good job) ... is there such a thing?
