I am new to foreign coins i usually only collect US coins, but i want this because of the significance in us history. But, I know there are allot of fakes running around. And i am sure i can get duped because i have never seen one in real life. does the coin above scream FAKE? Not sure if all the details of the coin are correct Thanks For your comments. http://www.zapdbf.com/eight3.jpg http://www.zapdbf.com/eight1.jpg http://www.zapdbf.com/eight2.jpg
Zapdbf, this looks like a Piece of 8 from Mexico. This was struck at Mexico City, hence the mintmark of an 'M' with the letter 'o' above it.Mexico City issues are actually very common, compared to other mints such as the Zacatecas Mint. Aidan.
The coin does look a little grainy and porous, the ticking along the edge looks a little uneven (some larger than others) and the "3" in the Date looks a little off! Without having the coin in hand, I would have to say it is a Counterfeit based on the pics. Frank
I would agree that the coin looks like a fake. If you would like a genuine one try either of these dealers - Sedwick Civitas You will get no fakes from either
