OK, I guess this is the most correct place to post this thread? LOL I have a handful of Morgan dollars that I am hoping to get some feedback on what you folks would grade these coins? I am trying to determine which ones to send off for Grading and I have narrowed it down to basically these coins and I just don’t know which to send off and which not to. So please help me? Let me know what you would grade each of these coins based upon the photos I am going to provide. In order to keep track of which coin you are talking about and grading, we will just label the first set of obv and rev of first coin “A” and the next set “B”, next set “C”, etc. I hope that makes it easier and more simple? I didn’t think it would be right or efficient to put up a separate post for each coin. Thanks in advance for any and all input you can provide and God bless! Warmest Regards, 2 Shine in Time!
Isn’t that EXTREMELY inefficient, brother? Why would that make more sense than making a thread just like this? It’s just 5 coins and I am just asking people’s opinions on grade of each. Does that not seem simpler than having 5 separate threads for the same person and the same group of coins? If it was like 5 different denomination coins or something, yeah, that would be complicated, but... just trying to be efficient for myself and everyone else and if the help can be condensed into this one thread, will be so much easier to manage. If not, then I guess I will make 5 separate threads.
See above. If you would like "hip shot" grades for your coins, post en-mass. Many of us prefer single threads for coin grading, you get more precise responses. Your choice. On a separate note, welcome aboard The CT Train. I hope we have congenial repartee.
The 1904-O won't get a straight grade. Harshly cleaned. The luster is gone from cleaning and it looks dull. The 1889 probably also.
Not to be snarky, but you are getting replies to your thread and are not on site to view them. You are probably multi tasking for efficiency sake.
Were some of these (especially the 1904-O) scanned rather than photographed? Scans usually make a coin look more dead -- they hide its luster. These are all common dates, and while it's hard to be sure from single photos, it doesn't look like any of them are in exceptional condition. If you send them in to be graded, you'll have an "official" indication of their grade, but it won't make them much more valuable or easier to sell. Figure $15-20 each all-in to have them graded at ICG or ANACS, more like $40-50 each to have them graded by PCGS or NGC. And these are probably worth $40-50 each at best. So, sending them in would be educational, but not profitable.
I would also say AU mostly. Maybe one of them a low MS. Thats only maybe and even MS grade doesn't ask for much premium unless it were higher MS grades like 67, 68, 69.
Best are #1 and #3, all are AU or lower, hard for me to tell for sure or not about cleaning and luster off of a stable image, so no comment on that, but I wouldn't' think any of them would be worth the grading fees unless you checked them for VAMS and it was one, and you sent it to ANACS unless PGCS or NGC happen to do that VAM attribution. I didn't check them for VAMs though, since that wasn't the question here. Still though, they'd be AU, and hit or miss on cleaning depending on how it reflects light.
Are these scans or photos? The luster looks muted in all of them...but if they are scans that might be why. Assuming they are all scans and that explains the luster and they are problem free...they are all AU range coins and common dates. I don't see anything here worth the price of grading. I would enjoy them as they are.
