The 1880-CC is the 8/Low7 I believe, but I don't know if it's VAM 5 or VAM 6. Not sure about any of the others. I paid 10% back of MS63 bid for these and no premium for the 1882-CC PL/DMPL. So I think I did well as far as the purchase price. Bonus: These all came with the original shipping box, too!
1880: VAM-6 (no gouge between branch and fletches). 1881: VAM-2. 1882(1): VAM-3 (somewhere in the progression, OG VAM-3 I think, can't tell if the wing spikes are there). 1882(2): Same VAM, spikes present, think this one is the repolished "second VAM-3" between A & B. 1885: Relatively early VAM-2.
THANK YOU! Would they be worth getting the VAM put on the holders? I'm actually thinking of not sending in the rainbow reverse one (MS61?) and the 1885-CC (MS63?) I paid too close to bid to have it be worthwhile getting graded in the first place.
I cannot disagree with that logic. And I wouldn't pay to vam a gsa unless it was a list vam. So maybe the 1880
I don't think the VAMs involved are worth the cost of attributing, no. Beyond that, especially as GSA's, slabbing is optional anyway.
Hadn't thought about that part. Keep in mind, with frosty pieces like this, the "black" marks are greatly exaggerated in importance by digital imagery. The 1880 has a decent shot at 65; it's a good 64 in any event. The 1881 is on the upper end of 64 but probably not 65. '82 #1 is baggy and maxes out at 63, perhaps. '82 #2 is an above-average 63 with a shot at the next grade, almost certainly PL as they're not difficult with the designation. The 1885 is probably maxed out at 63.
I've noticed that PCGS grades PL and DMPL coins differently. Not sure about NGC, but PCGS seems to allow more bag marks on higher grade PL and DMPL coins as compared to regular strikes. Not sure why, but I've seen some extremely baggy Morgans in 65 and 66 PL. Even in focal areas.
63 64 63 63+ Pl 64 if the parallel scrapes on the chin are mint made. I've seen other Morgan's that were. otherwise 63
I discounted those immediately as "as struck" (or as not struck, more accurately ) planchet striations.
Well I sent the 1880, 1881, and PL 1882 off to NGC. I'll let you guys know what they grade. The only one I am having attributed is the 1880 8/low 7 VAM 6.
