Ok, I officially fell off the wagon again (that's like the 5th time already) ...but now I can wrap up my 2015 ancient coin acquisition campaign on the highest of notes thanks to Red_Spork.

Coming soon to south Florida from somewhere in the deep frozen north. I can now scratch dolphin off the list of ancient animals I want.

Very nice. Did you buy it from RS or someone he recommended?

I got it from him. It's the one on his website.

This is a nice and desirable coin, but, man, you're going to have to slow down or you'll have to chase more ambulances.

Oh, I know. Now I'm really done for a good while, honestly. All that's left for next year is a Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, a Nerva denarius, and a Vespasian, and I'm pretty much done for 2016. It is definitely not going to be the shopping spree I went in these last 2 months. I'm making more focused purchases to complete sets and themes.

    Two things...

    (1) That's a damn nice coin. As Istros stater goes, that's one of the nicest out there.

    (2) Why do we talk as though we're junkies with a self-destructive addiction, who keep falling off the wagon? LOL

Not that we should be enabling each other's addictions, but where is RS' site of which you speak?

I'm glad it's finding a good home. It's a really nice coin that I won at auction in May of this year and later found out that the consignor was a dealer who is a good friend and mentor of mine. I hate to sell it, but I've gotta feed my Republican collection and the food ain't cheap! A couple more pictures of it from the auction house & previous owner:

It's a magnificent coin. I gave some serious thought to purchasing it myself. I'm glad it went to a good home!

That is a nice looking specimen. Of course those of us who want more than one will point out that these come with reverse facing either direction and with the opposite obverse head inverted as well in a series of fractional denominations and barbarous copies. Did I mention the different letters under the dolphin?

Reverse to the right is considerably less common.

At 0.8g this may be a diobol but I really doubt the people of Istros used the names collectors assign. The type was issued over a long period. I am not aware of a study dating them within the series.

Whatever it was, the one below at 0.3g was half and the smallest I have.

Uh huh. Sure, four coins next year. That's all.

    Nice new addition!

Well, I never said how many examples of each I'd be picking up. I figure I'd at least want 2 denarii of each with different reverses, and maybe even a sesterce of Trajan or Hadrian might be nice.

It's like a drug. You start out with the best intentions. Just an occasional coin to wet the beak. And then.........BAM, like a lightning bolt to the brain, it hits you.

'First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the coins....'

After that it's all "say hello to my leeeeetle friend"

It's so familiar, it's like an old movie.

    or something like that.

I thought I was mostly done buying coins and coin paraphernalia as well, but Sallent's purchase allowed me to add a book I have wanted for quite some time to the library:
