I am trying to organize my collection. I can not find who these three are. I am sure most of you guys will know off the bat. I am still looking but thought I would post a thread, as I kept looking. Thanks in advance.
I took this photo some time ago. Its not been messed with and I know its a trick of the light but does that not look like a face? I know its just a case of Pareidolia but it sure looks funny.
I am horrible at reading these legends. But the one I don't have a photo for the reverse I think my be Antoninus Pius denarius. I can not find that coin if it is but still looking. The hair is wrong for Antoninus Pius, on my coin its curly almost a perm type of hair. On the ones I have found they are straight hair.
In order: Trajan (can't tell from photo if it's just a rough example or possible cast), Caracalla (not Antoninus Pius), and Aurelian. "Caracalla" is a nickname, not his regnal name, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Pius: "Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Pius Felix Augustus, son of the deified Septimius Severus, conqueror of Arabia, conqueror of Adiabene, Most Great Conqueror of Parthia, Most Great Conqueror of Britain, grandson of the deified Antoninus Pius, conqueror of Germany, conqueror of Sarmatia, great-grandson of the deified Antoninus Pius, great-great-grandson of the deified Hadrian, great-great-great-grandson of the deified Trajan, conqueror of Parthia, and of the deified Nerva …" -- RIB 1018 They're all like that, and tended to have overlapping names whether or not they were related or adopted, which is why we use the shortened nicknames most of the time.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I am very bad at reading these legends. I am better than I was but still not good.
