Just received this piece as part of a large mixed lot of coins. Having a hard time identifying it. It seems to be billion but outside of that I can't really tell. It looks like the date is 1610. Any help would be appreciated. Roughly the diameter of a .50 piece.
No idea what that actually is but I'd say French rather than Polish. Around the portrait I can read "LUDO XIII D G (...) AUSTR HISPAN" (V>U) which IMO suggests Louis XIII. On the other side there is some Latin motto - NUNQUAM M-something ... Agree about the year - either 1610 or 1616. Edit - Hmm, most Louis XIII coins will simply refer to France and Navarra. So I could be wrong once again. Christian
The obverse has HISPAN at 5 o'clock and the hearts on the reverse make me think it's a wedding token. But again, I know nearly nothing about anything.
Wedding token? Ah, then the "L" and the "A" would make sense - as in Louis (of France) and his wife Anne (of Austria). The two married in 1615 ... Christian
The obverse is almost identical to the image below. A marriage token looks like a good call, since Vcoins describes it as "France, Token, Royal, Louis XIII and Anne d'Autriche wedding, 1615." So the extra countries refer to Anne of Austria's dominions. The one pictured looks like it sold for €35. Obverse: LVDO. XIII. D. G. FR. ET. NA. ANNA. AVSTR. HISPANI. Reverse: SUR LA BANDEROLE : CARITAS. SPES. FIDES. NVNQVAM. MARCESCENT. . AU BAS: L. LIS A. ET À L'EXERGUE : H. K. The reverse has some differences, but this looks pretty close to the token posted.
